2017 AASHTO Audit Conference
Greetings from the road! I’m here in Washington, DC at the ACEC convention, and there is a lot of buzz about infrastructure funding and other important issues affecting our industry.
Regardless of your role or political affiliation, one thing is clear – we can expect a lot of changes over the next few years.
That’s true also in the area of FAR interpretation, overhead rates, and state DOT audits and reviews. In my role as a consultant to ACEC national, I work with the ACEC state organizations, AASHTO, FHWA, and state DOTs on issues affecting A/E firm contracting, including what we generally think of as financial, overhead, and audit issues. One place where the groups involved in these issues come together to engage in discussions to advance the state of practice is the annual AASHTO Audit Subcommittee conference. This year’s conference will be held July 10-13 in Missoula, Montana.
I’ve been attending the conference annually since 2000, and over that time, the number of A/E firms and CPA firms attending has increased substantially. This has allowed us to engage in substantive discussions of the issues affecting development / audit / review of A/E firm overhead rates, and has built a much better understanding of the challenges faced by all the parties involved.
I would strongly encourage you to check out the conference website http://aashtoauditsubcommittee.org/ and consider attending this year’s conference. Be sure to plan some extra time to check out Montana – it’s a beautiful place, and it’s HUGE!
We’ll be posting upcoming training opportunities to our website soon – we’re planning several live training sessions – one or two days – for the fall, and we will present live webinars in November and December. So check our website over the next month or so, and we’ll look forward to seeing you later this year!
